Find What You Need Faster: An Updated Guide to Benefits.gov

Benefits.gov is a vital hub for citizens seeking government benefits information, programs, and resources. Whether you’re searching for a specific program or just browsing, sometimes the most crucial aspect of finding what you need is knowing where to look. In this article, we’ll explore and highlight the exciting new features that make navigating Benefits.gov a more intuitive and efficient experience.

Find What You Need, Faster

On the Benefits.gov homepage, you’ll find multiple ways to begin your search. Starting with the Benefit Finder at the top, all the way down to the video highlights at the bottom, the homepage provides quick access to popular information and resources. To familiarize yourself with the website’s structure, explore the main navigation menu located at the top of the homepage.

New Search Tools and Navigation

In 2023, we launched two new tools on Benefits.gov, making it easier for people to find the information and services they need that are offered through the government. In direct response to research of our users’ needs, the new tools Browse by State and Life Events were developed to make the benefit search experience more intuitive, personalized, and efficient.

  • Browse by State: This tool enables users to refine their searches based on location, ensuring that the results received are tailored to their location preferences. Browse by State lets you find resources nearby, simplifying the process of connecting with local services.
  • Life Events: Life is a journey marked by significant milestones, transitions, and experiences. Our Life Events tool allows users to search for benefit information and resources that cater specifically to the needs associated with their chosen life event. Life Events include “Having a Child”, “Change or Loss of a Job”, “Approaching Retirement”, and more.

These tools, along with others like Browse by Agency, Browse by Category, and the Benefit Finder help you save time in finding the information you need.
