Supplemental Service Disabled Veterans Insurance


Veterans who have basic Service-Disabled Veterans Insurance (S-DVI) coverage and are totally disabled are eligible to have their premiums waived. If a waiver is granted, totally disabled Veterans may apply for additional coverage of up to $30,000 under the Supplemental S-DVI program. Premiums for Supplemental S-DVI coverage, however, cannot be waived.

Premiums for Supplemental S-DVI coverage, however, cannot be waived.


To be eligible, you must be a S-DVI policyholder and be:

  • Eligible for waiver of premiums on your S-DVI policy due to total disability AND
  • Under age 65.

You must apply for the coverage within one year from the date of your notification of waiver approval on the S-DVI policy, or by December 31, 2022, whichever comes first.


To complete an application, use VA Form 29-0188, "Supplemental Service-Disabled Veterans Insurance."
