In honor of Mother’s Day, we want to recognize and thank all mothers. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there were 43.5 million mothers in the United States on Mother’s Day in 2017. Benefits.gov offers information on benefits to help mothers and women in need. If you, or someone you know, is looking for assistance, check out the following benefits.

Pregnancy Assistance:

If you are currently pregnant, there are resources to help you and your baby stay safe during your pregnancy. The Health Insurance Marketplace helps you find health coverage to fit your specific needs. Even though open enrollment has passed, some pregnant women may be eligible to enroll in a healthcare plan during a special enrollment period.

Adoption Assistance:

Many family benefits apply to all parents, including biological, adoptive, and foster parents. However, some of our Partner agencies offer benefits specifically for adoptive families in need. For example, Tax Benefits for Adoption, offered by the IRS, helps reduce income tax by allowing you to claim qualified adoption expenses on your federal income tax return. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services also offers Adoption Assistance, which provides financial help and services to children with special needs and their adoptive parents. For more information or to see if you may be eligible, visit the Adoption Assistance Information Gateway.

Resources for all Women:

Our Partner agencies offer many benefits for mothers, children, and women in general. Take a look at your state’s Women, Infants, and Children program through our Food and Nutrition category to find help for you and your children to improve your family’s nutrition and health care. The U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs also offers comprehensive medical services for women who are veterans through their Women Health Care Benefits.

Social Security Assistance:

The U.S. Social Security Administration offers many benefits to help all parents and children. Visit our Social Security and Retirement category and filter by the “Family Social Security” subcategory to view specific benefits for mothers, fathers, parents, and spouses. You can also take our Benefit Finder questionnaire to see if you or a family member may qualify for additional benefits.
