Spring is the season of new beginnings. Whether you’re looking for a new home, in a housing transition, going through a foreclosure, or want to become a first-time homeowner, Benefits.gov can help you find your way.

The following programs are offered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and may help you and your family find a new place to call home.

Housing Counseling Assistance

The House Counseling Assistance program funds housing counseling agencies throughout the country, so that can give you advice on buying a home, renting, defaults, foreclosures, credit issues, and reverse mortgages. Public Housing Program

The HUD Public Housing program provides decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single-family houses to high-rise apartments for the elderly. Homes for Sale Program

The HUD Homes for Sale program is offering 1-to 4-unit residential property acquired by HUD as a result of a foreclosure action on a Federal Housing Administration (FHA)-insured mortgage. HUD becomes the property owner and offers the HUD home for sale to recover the loss on the foreclosure claim. Good Neighbor Next Door Program

The Good Neighbor Next Door program assists law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and teachers purchase homes in a HUD revitalization area. The Good Neighbor Next Door program offers qualified purchasers a 50 percent discount off the list price of homes available through HUD inventory. You must agree to live in the home for three years and it must be your sole residence. To learn more, visit the Good Neighbor Next Door Program page.
