A Thank You to Moms and Dads in Uniform
May is National Military Appreciation Month and, with Mother's Day and Father's Day just around the corner, Benefits.gov would like to take this opportunity to specially thank the mothers and fathers in uniform, serving overseas and around the world.

If you or someone you know have recently returned from a deployment and are looking for a job, check out a few of the programs below that may help as you transition back into the civilian workforce.

Local Veterans' Employment Representative Program (LVER): LVER provides job development, placement, and support services directly to Veterans and maximizes employment and training opportunities. In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be unemployed or about to become unemployed and have completed at least 24 continuous months of active duty service in the military.

One-Stop Career Center Initiative: One-Stop Career Centers are designed to help businesses find qualified workers and help job seekers obtain employment and training services to enhance their careers. To find a One-Stop Career Center near you, use their Service Locator, or get specified assistance online with CareerOneStop's Veterans ReEmployment site. Here you will find tools that can help you find information on Veterans reemployment, unemployment benefits, military-to-civilian jobs, and job search tips.

Armed Forces Tax Benefits: If you are filing your taxes late or have requested an extension, the Armed Forces Tax Benefits program offers tax credit or relief for special tax situations of active members of the U.S. Armed Forces. In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must have been in active military service for at least 24 months and you must be a taxpayer who is interested in receiving tax information and tax preparation assistance.
