New York Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)


The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program is a special supplemental food program for women, infants, and children up to the age of 5. All applicants must be income eligible and have a medical or nutritional risk. The WIC Program provides nutritious foods along with nutrition education and information on where to apply for free or low-cost health care or other needed services in the community. The WIC program of New York is administered by the New York Department of Health.

To be eligible for this benefit program, you must be a resident of New York and one of the following:

  • Pregnant, or
  • Breastfeeding, or
  • Postpartum, or
  • A child 5 years old or younger.

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

*For households with more than eight people, add $9,953 per additional person. Always check with the appropriate managing agency to ensure the most accurate guidelines.

A person who participates or has family members participate in certain other benefit programs, such as SNAP, Medicaid, or TANF, automatically meets the income eligibility requirement.
