Idaho Temporary Assistance for Families in Idaho (TAFI)


Temporary Assistance for Families in Idaho (TAFI) is the monthly cash assistance program for low-income families in Idaho. The program goal is to provide necessary assistance to needy families with children on a temporary basis and provide parents with job preparation, work opportunities, enforcement of child support, and support services to enable them to become self-sufficient, and leave the program as soon as possible. This is a time-limited cash assistance and supportive services program with an emphasis on self-reliance and personal responsibility.

This is a time-limited cash assistance and supportive services program with an emphasis on self-reliance and personal responsibility.


To be eligible for Idaho TANF, you must be a resident of Idaho, and a U.S. citizen, legal alien or qualified alien. You must be unemployed or underemployed and have low or very low income. You must also be one of the following:

  • Have a child 18 years of age or younger, or
  • Be pregnant, or
  • Be 18 years of age or younger and the head of your household.


You can apply for TAFI cash assistance at your local Health and Welfare's Self Reliance office (a list of which can be found on the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare website) or contact the 2-1-1 Idaho CareLine to have an application mailed to you. Dial 2-1-1 or 1-800-926-2588.
