Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Needy Families


The Hawaii TANF program provides cash assistance to needy families with dependent children under the age of 18 or expectant mothers with no children but is in their ninth month of pregnancy. Supportive services such as childcare, transportation, work- and education-related expenses are provided to adult TANF recipients through the First-to-Work (FTW) program. The FTW program helps recipient families to obtain and retain employment and to become financially independent.

To be eligible for TANF in Hawaii, a family must be residing in Hawaii, furnish social security numbers (SSH) for family members or show proof that SSN was applied for with the Social Security Administration. The family must participate with the TANF work program (FTW) and cooperate with child support establishment if there is an absent parent in the household.
