Nebraska Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)


The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps low income households stay safe and healthy by providing financial assistance to offset the costs of heating and cooling. LIHEAP particularly helps households that pay a high portion of household income for home energy to meet immediate home energy needs.

The LIHEAP Program provides heating assistance, cooling assistance, year round crisis assistance, furnace/central air conditioner repair and replacement, window air conditioner assistance and a fan program for eligible households.
In order to qualify for LIHEAP, a household must:

  • Be unprotected from increases in energy costs and use its own resources for home energy costs;
  • Meet income guidelines according to Household size; and
  • Meet citizenship requirements;
  • Meet Nebraska residency requirements.

To be eligible for this benefit program, you must be a resident of Nebraska and you must need financial assistance with home energy costs.

A person who participates or has family members who participate in certain other benefit programs, such as SNAP, SSI, TANF, automatically meets the eligibility requirement.

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

*For households with more than eight people, add $6,241 per additional person. Always check with the appropriate managing agency to ensure the most accurate guidelines.
