Program DescriptionMeal programs (breakfast and lunch), under the provisions and guidance of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, are provided in public and some private schools in Hawaii. The purposes of these programs are to provide low cost nutritious meals, educational experiences, and the opportunity to establish disirable, life-long eating habits. These programs, the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program, are administered by the Hawaii Child Nutrition Programs (HCNP).
General Program Requirements
Children can receive these meals for free or at a reduced price. To qualify, households must meet annually established income guidelines.
